Nobody’s Watching

I haven't blogged for a while. My once a week from a decade ago had dropped to every two weeks had dropped to every three weeks had dropped off a cliff. My religious weight-training dropped off the same damn cliff as my blogging practice. My ego wants to tell you I've been hiking, running, and cycling. I ran and rode my bike once. My ego loves to milk a success. Really, my exercise has been limited to swinging on a pendulum between napping and beating myself up for napping.

My inner child believes my worth is connected to my productivity. My outer old broad agrees. My therapist thinks it's something we should work on, but I'm not so sure. I mean, I get it, I get it, we're all valuable and divine - even if we spend all our time napping. But when I consider a life well-lived, it's getting my valuable and divine ass off the couch. It's being a role model for my girls, taking care of the people I love (including myself), being of service to my community, and putting my strengths to work.

While I've been napping, an unexpected shift began. My motivation for a life well-lived, began shifting from my ego to my soul. Not because napping is the path to enlightenment (although maybe it is?!), but because I've realized that my ego is the only one watching. Nobody else gives a single crap about my productivity. When I was whining to a friend that I am now a pathetic, lazy turd, she told me that I could completely drop out of life for six months and nobody would notice. Strangely, it was one of the most comforting things I've ever heard.

So nap like nobody's watching. Because nobody's watching. And then get your valuable and divine ass of the couch. Because you're worth it.
